Finallllllly Home!
Ok, so I'm sure I'll go into a lot more detail about this later, but this weekend has been crazy!
As some of you know, my parents had the opportunity to go back to Israel yet again for the past few weeks. They had a flight scheduled to land late Friday night in Columbus. So me being the caring and insanely cool son that I am, head down to c-town to pick them up at the airport.
Well as you know the Blizzard of '08 decided to meet me on my journey down. Now from my humble abode, it takes about 1 hour and 30 to 1 hour and 40 minutes to get to the airport. Yeah.... let's try 5 and 1/2 stinkin' hours!!!!
As I am stuck in crawling traffic down around Zanesville on I-70 West (and when I say crawling....3 miles in 40 minutes) I get a call from my pops who is in Chicago and he told me their flight was canceled. So i get on the horn to my sister and ask her to google up some hotels around the airport.
After calling every place under the sun, I finally get into a Comfort Suites hotel. The last room. Praise Jesus!
So a couple hours later I roll into Columbus. The snow is falling so quickly that as soon as a plow has a chance to go down a road, it is covered within seconds. I am just amazed I made it to the airport still in one piece! Some of the accidents I witnessed on the way down made me thankful that God promises to watch over me. I can only hope that some of those involved in accidents put their hope in the Lord.

I step into my suite, room 226. Talk about amazing! I have this ginormous (is that a word?) room all to myself. Sure, my credit card was taking a hit, but this was 10 times better than sleeping in my car on a cold winters night!
I decided that there was no way I was going to venture out into the night again, so I ordered a pizza and by the grace of God they were still delivering! Life was good :)
My dad gave me a call and said that their flight was to leave Chicago around 7am their time...so 8 am for me hanging out in EST..or is it EDT? I never know which is which. All i know is that we fall back and spring forward...but that's for another day.
---
I woke up saturday morning and my dad called my room around 6:30 and told me to get the room for another night because all flights into Columbus were canceled.
Ok, no biggie right? Oh yeah, except for that whole i didn't bring anything with me thing. I am a contact lens wearer. If you are one, you know that keeping your contacts in for a whole day is nuts...let alone 2 days AND sleeping in them. Yeah, it was going to hurt like crazy! No change of clothes, no glasses, no toothbrush, etc etc (Geez, I'm sounding like i was in the desert for 40 years!) Well thankfully the hotel hooked my up with the hygiene essentials and i survived!
To wrap up an insanely long story (and you haven't even heard the half of it) my parents finally got into Columbus early evening on Sunday. After a lovely but quick drive home ( I have a lead foot, sue me) I returned to find my driveway under about 14 inches of snow. Now down in Columbus we had a good 2 feet...plus 5 foot snow drifts. But i only had to dig my car out...not the whole parking lot. Bah!
So that's what I spent my evening doing...shoveling, snow blowing (by the way, remind me to send a Christmas card to the makers of my snow blower!) de-icing cars....but now it's all done. The Blizzard is done, I'm in my own bed for the first time in 3 nights and I finally get to return to normalcy!
