Finallllllly Home!

Ok, so I'm sure I'll go into a lot more detail about this later, but this weekend has been crazy!
As some of you know, my parents had the opportunity to go back to Israel yet again for the past few weeks. They had a flight scheduled to land late Friday night in Columbus. So me being the caring and insanely cool son that I am, head down to c-town to pick them up at the airport.
Well as you know the Blizzard of '08 decided to meet me on my journey down. Now from my humble abode, it takes about 1 hour and 30 to 1 hour and 40 minutes to get to the airport. Yeah.... let's try 5 and 1/2 stinkin' hours!!!!
As I am stuck in crawling traffic down around Zanesville on I-70 West (and when I say crawling....3 miles in 40 minutes) I get a call from my pops who is in Chicago and he told me their flight was canceled. So i get on the horn to my sister and ask her to google up some hotels around the airport.
After calling every place under the sun, I finally get into a Comfort Suites hotel. The last room. Praise Jesus!
So a couple hours later I roll into Columbus. The snow is falling so quickly that as soon as a plow has a chance to go down a road, it is covered within seconds. I am just amazed I made it to the airport still in one piece! Some of the accidents I witnessed on the way down made me thankful that God promises to watch over me. I can only hope that some of those involved in accidents put their hope in the Lord.
----
I step into my suite, room 226. Talk about amazing! I have this ginormous (is that a word?) room all to myself. Sure, my credit card was taking a hit, but this was 10 times better than sleeping in my car on a cold winters night!
I decided that there was no way I was going to venture out into the night again, so I ordered a pizza and by the grace of God they were still delivering! Life was good :)
My dad gave me a call and said that their flight was to leave Chicago around 7am their time...so 8 am for me hanging out in EST..or is it EDT? I never know which is which. All i know is that we fall back and spring forward...but that's for another day.
---
I woke up saturday morning and my dad called my room around 6:30 and told me to get the room for another night because all flights into Columbus were canceled.
Ok, no biggie right? Oh yeah, except for that whole i didn't bring anything with me thing. I am a contact lens wearer. If you are one, you know that keeping your contacts in for a whole day is nuts...let alone 2 days AND sleeping in them. Yeah, it was going to hurt like crazy! No change of clothes, no glasses, no toothbrush, etc etc (Geez, I'm sounding like i was in the desert for 40 years!) Well thankfully the hotel hooked my up with the hygiene essentials and i survived!
To wrap up an insanely long story (and you haven't even heard the half of it) my parents finally got into Columbus early evening on Sunday. After a lovely but quick drive home ( I have a lead foot, sue me) I returned to find my driveway under about 14 inches of snow. Now down in Columbus we had a good 2 feet...plus 5 foot snow drifts. But i only had to dig my car out...not the whole parking lot. Bah!
So that's what I spent my evening doing...shoveling, snow blowing (by the way, remind me to send a Christmas card to the makers of my snow blower!) de-icing cars....but now it's all done. The Blizzard is done, I'm in my own bed for the first time in 3 nights and I finally get to return to normalcy!

What's playing

So I have decided to start to let ya in on what I'm listening to in my spare time. It may be old, it may be new, but if I'm listening to it, it's pretty much worth checking out. Now, I'm not saying I have the very best taste in music, but I do know that most of the bands I listen to usually make it big.

This week I've been on a big Jonny Diaz Band kick. Call them a mix of Jon McLaughlin, Jon Foreman (front man of Switchfoot), Jack Johnson and what the heck, a smidgen of John Mayer...but with morals.
The album "They Need Love" (available at itunes.com) is intoxicating to say the least. I honestly feel that I can't critique it. There is just something about JDB that hits you in the face and makes you keep listening over and over and over again. If you do only 18 things this week, checking out the Jonny Diaz Band (www.jonnydiaz.com or www.purevolume.com/jonnydiaz or www.myspace.com/jonnydiazband) is an absolute must.

OH! EVEN MORE GOOD NEWS! JDB is schedule to perform at Alive on June 21st. Check out www.alive.org for more!

Because God said so

Over the summer of 2007 I received a call asking if I would be interested in hosting a rock show weeknights right here on The Light. At that time I had a great gig going for me. I was a national award winning broadcaster, I was a production director and was recently named a morning show co-host at another Christian station. It had been my dream of the past several years to bring the message of Christ for my generation (and others as well) back into this area through the form of music that wasn't boring... that wasn't dry. Music that when non-Christians heard it, they would stay and listen because it didn't come off as preaching to them.

By now you have figured out that God opened up the doors to allow me to take this position and spend my evenings here playing music that will further His kingdom. However, other the past few weeks negativity has been crashing down around. It's not negativity from my awesome listeners, but rather negativity from some of my old co-workers.
Sometimes I feel as if people do their best to come at you with everything they have to make you miss what you once had. I can honestly tell you that I have NEVER been as happy as I am right here on The Buzz Radio Show. The way God has worked in me...the way He has worked in some of you is just amazing.
I often feel that people don't understand why others do what they do. I didn't leave that place just to make more money. I didn't leave that place because here I have more control of what I can and cannot do. I came to this place because God said so.
It's rather remarkable to see what God does when you offer up everything you have and just tell Him, "Here it is Lord. I want what You want. If this is Your will, I will follow it. If it is not Your will, I'll accept that too."
They can continue to rag on me, give me a hard time, try to pull me down, but the fact is, I'm here because this is God's plan for me.

So what's next for you and I? It's hard to tell, but I hope you will join me in going to God everyday and asking Him how He can use us to His glory.

This is going to be fun.
